We had church at noon.

 Mom Szabo came and went to church with us and then spent the rest of the afternoon.

 There is a story behind the orange coat.  I bought it many years ago for Sam who never would wear it. None of the other kids would wear it either.  Too orange, (even though it is reversible), and too puffy.  It was too nice of a coat so I never could bring myself to give it away until this year.  I decided it would have to go.  When I got it out Sam decided he liked it so he wears it all the time.  Lindsey (Jarod's sister)  couldn't resist buying him the hat with orange on it to match his "new" coat.  The slippers were a gift from Jarod.  (Another thing he would never wear when he was growing up.)  Oh how time changes things.

McKay's farewell

McKay, thank-you for being such a wonderful example to our family.  You are a young man of kindness, integrity, and faith.  We cherish the memories we have with you and your family.  You will be an excellent missionary.  Our love and prayers go with you.

Time Out for Women

Delaine and I decided to go to Time Out for Women in Salt Lake.

It was time well spent.

Powder Puff Football

 Molly & Jamie played on a powder puff football team.  While practicing on October 26th Molly hurt her little finger.  The pain and swelling didn't get better so she came home on Friday (28th) and went to the AF clinic.  They told her it was broken but because of the way it was broke she would have to see a specialist.  They put a splint on it and wrapped it up.

 On Tuesday, November 1st she was able to see the specialist.  He told her they would have to do surgery and put pins in it.  The first available time he could do it was Monday, November 7th.  He wrapped it up even more.

 On Monday November 7th, she had surgery on her pinkie.

They had to put her under which Molly doesn't like but all went well.
She got an even bigger wrap.

Needless to say she is very tired of trying to keep it clean and dry.  She will be happy to get the cast on it which will hopefully happen Friday.  Luckily she broke her right pinkie and she is left handed.

Who knew a pinkie finger could cause so many problems.

The moral of the story is playing powder puff football can be dangerous.
PS  Come to find out this is the cast.  The cottony stuff they put under the wrap hardens and this is what you get.

52 years young!

Soup

Almost every fall my sister-in-law and my mom can soup.  I always think I am going to get up there and do it with them but that never happens so this year I decided to do some on my own.  

I think it turned out okay.  The one bottle that didn't seal tasted pretty good.

I forgot to take a picture until I had it downstairs on the shelf.

I Love Potatoes!

One of my favorite things is fresh potatoes from Idaho.

Every fall we go home and get potatoes.

I don't think there is any way to prepare a potato that I wouldn't like.

Yes, I am truly an Idaho girl.  

Growing up we got two weeks off from school every fall for potatoes harvest.  

Working in the potatoes is they way I earned my money for school clothes and college.

Aunt Nola

My favorite memories of Aunt Nola are:

her coming to our house for Christmas (there was always a puzzle up and as we worked on the puzzle she would tell us of some of her experiences working at the Church offices);

stopping to see her at work whenever we went to Salt Lake (she would introduce us to any General Authority who happened to walk by, once when the prophet wasn't there she showed us his office);

 coming to our family camp (she always brought Almond Joys); and

visiting with her at family reunions (she did lots of family history so she could tell great stories of our ancestors)

 Aunt Nola was kind. gracious.and loyal to her family.  She was organized, efficient, and a woman of integrity.

 Boyd talked at her funeral and I think he said it just right when he quoted this song as an example of how she lived her life.

Our beloved sister, aunt, and friend passed away on Oct 3, 2011. She was born November 7, 1928 in Bern, Idaho to Edwin L. and Vera H. Alleman. She graduated from Montpelier High School then attended BYU where she graduated in Secretarial Science. She taught English and Typing for one year in Downy, Idaho.
Nola served a 2 year mission in the Swiss/Austria Mission. Nola has been a faithful and active member of the Church her whole life. She devoted her time and talents to doing family history and genealogy. Nola worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Church Administration Building. She worked with the Council of the Twelve, and later in the Office of the First Presidency. She loved her work and served faithfully for 40 years, retiring in 1994.

Preceded in death by her, parents, sister Shirley Midgley, and brother Larry G. Alleman. Survived by brothers Arvel (Arlene) Alleman, Jim Midgley, sisters Doreen Wells, Roma Robison, Karolyn Alleman, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the Rose Park Ward, 760 N. 1200 W. A viewing will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Friday, October 7th at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and Saturday 1 hour prior to services at the church.
The family wishes to thank The Wentworth at Draper for the care and concern they provided her.
